It is an unfair name! While smoking is a major cause, these lines are actually caused by the orbicularis oris muscle—the muscle you use to purse your lips. If you frequently drink through straws, whistle, take selfies with a "kissy face," or simply have a very expressive way of speaking, you are prone to these lines. It’s repetitive motion, not just nicotine, that breaks down the skin.

Will Daxxify make it hard for me to drink from a straw or speak?
This is the most critical question from our patients at South Windsor, CT. The mouth is a functional area, so we treat it conservatively. We use "micro-doses" of Daxxify here—just enough to soften the tension without paralyzing the muscle. You will still be able to eat, speak, and use a straw, though you might feel a slight difference in how firmly you can purse your lips for the first week.

What is the aftercare needed after receiving Daxxify injections
Use Anti-inflammatories: Using anti-inflammatories after your Daxxify injection procedure for about 2 weeks will help with potential bruising.
Avoid laying down: Try not to lay down on your forehead for about 3 to 4 hours after your treatment.
Avoid Scrubbing or Rubbing your face: Wait about 24 to 48 hours before you decide to rub and scrub your face. This is to ensure positive results after your Daxxify treatment.
Don’t wear makeup for 12 hours: Post injection waits at least 12 hours before you apply makeup to avoid irritation.
